Hymn 366
I gave My life for thee
mf I gave My life for thee,
My precious blood I shed, cr That thou might'st ransomed be,
And quicken'd from the dead
p I gave I gave My life for thee;
What hast thou giv'n for Me?
mp I spent long years for thee
In weariness and woe, cr That an eternity
Of joy thou mightiest know.
p I spent I spent long years for thee:
Hast thou spent one for Me?
f My Father's home of light,
My rainbow-circled throne
di I left, for earthly night.
For wand'rings sad and lone
p I left I left it all for thee;
Hast thou left aught for Me?
I suffer'd much for thee.
More than thy tongue can tell
Of bitterest agony,
To rescue thee from hell
mp I suffered much for thee;
What canst thou bear for Me?
mf And I have brought lo thee,
Down from My home above, cr Salvation full and free.
My pardon and My love.
Great gifts I brought to thee;
p What hast thou brought to Me?
f Oh, let thy life be given.
Thy years for Me be spent.
World-fetters all be riven.
And joy with suffering blent,
I gave Myself for thee;
Give thou thyself to Me. Amen.
