JEHOVAH JIREH

Memorise:
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. .. Philippians 4:19

Read:
Genesis 22:1-14

Message

The name Jehovah Jireh was coined by Abraham after his experience with God on Mount Moriah. He had gone there to sacrifice Isaac, but God had already provided a lamb for the sacrifice instead of Isaac. He called the name of the place Jehovah Jireh because he was basically saying, "God meets needs before they even arise." In that passage, Abraham had no idea where the ram came from. In the same vein, you also do not need to know how God will provide for your needs. All you need to do is trust Him and know that He will provide.

God can send help to you from anywhere, even from places you are not aware of. When I became General Overseer, I visited my village, and a local businessman said to me, "You are a General Overseer now, and there is no house here in the village for your guests to stay in. I will supply you with blocks to build a house, and you can pay me whenever you make the money." I thought to myself, "Oh, what a miracle from God." I then built a very small house. However, the day the house was roofed, the businessman sent a messenger to demand immediate payment for the blocks. I didn't have any money, so I cried to God, "Father, I was not ready to build a house. It was this man who brought the idea to me, and now, I am in trouble. Please help me." I prayed all night and then fell asleep. In the morning, I had a visitor who said that God told her to travel all the way down from the North to the Redemption Camp to give me an envelope. When she saw me, she asked, "I am looking for the head of this church." I replied, "That is God." Then, she said, "I know, but I am looking for His representative." I said, "That is me." She then said, "God told me yesterday to bring you this envelope." I had never met her, and I haven't seen her again since then. I opened the envelope, and it was the exact amount that I owed the businessman.

Our God is truly Jehovah Jireh-the Great Provider. You may not know where, when, or how your needs will be met, but rest assured that He will always provide.

Father, please send help to me today, in Jesus' name.

King James Version

Genesis 22:1-14

And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am. [2] And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of. [3] And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him. [4] Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off. [5] And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you, [6] And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together. [7] And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering? [8] And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together. [9] And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood. [10] And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son. [11] And the angel of the Lord called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I. [12] And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me. [13] And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son. [14] And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen.

What a friend we have in Jesus

  1. What a friend we have in Jesus,
    All our sins and griefs to bear;
    What a privilege to carry
    Ev'rything to God in prayer.
Oh, what peace we often forfeit.
Oh, what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
    Ev'rything to God in prayer.
  2. Have we trials and temptations?
    Is there trouble anywhere?
W e should never be discouraged.
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a Friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
    Jesus knows our ev'ry weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
  3. Are we weak and heavy laden.
Cumbered with a load of care?
    Precious Saviour, still our refuge.
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
In His arms He'll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.
